A little bit of Merlin photographic retrospective perspective

I was asked if I had any more photos since I published this blog, so I dug out 7 or 8 more, and posted them below. These are from series 4, episode 8, 'Lamia', when the knights turn against each other and guests stars Charlene McKenna...

Hope this makes a few people happy....kudos

Eoin

This is not so much a blog as a little photo diary of some portraits and behind the scenes photos that I took when i was on Merlin during season 3. I stopped taking photos for the other two seasons, I'm not sure why, but when you're on a series it becomes less interesting photographing people as time wears on. On a film set it has a very finite time frame and so I find it more exciting to take pictures. On a series there always seems to be months still left.

And then there isn't, because it's finished.

I regret not taking more photos, and resolve to do so more frequently in the future....

Merlin was a superb group of actors, and crew, very talented actors, and wickedly interesting people....so here's a wee selection of some photos, and some casual portraits....I can't get in trouble any longer now can I.....

I was going to put these photos in some semblance of an order, and maybe give some history.

But I haven't.

Because that's actually a lot of work on this blog and I'm too lazy.

    1. I agree. I'm a hopeless romantic and medieval fan! What a myriad of attractive men in one movie! too much for one woman to handle. ;-) LOL

  4. AND While I'm here. I'm still not over how cute you are with those Bananas. Nothing is more entertaining than a Man who knows his way around posing with bananas <3 <3

They've flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but some things remain
When I look and I find no change

  13. Thank you for sharing these! BTS glimpses are always interesting, and it's always nice to see the crew/BTS people recognised as well. My favourite is the one of Bradley James wearing the sandals. Hopefully you'll have some more Bradley pics to share...?

  18. What wonderful pictures. I actually love the landscapes. I envy the person (or persons) who scouted out and found all those amazing locations from the entire series. All those areas make you want to just sit back and breathe in the beauty of it all. You're one lucky fella.

  25. Loved the photos ... very beautiful ... it's a shame you do not have any pictures of Angel

  26. Mr Macken you're a h*ll of a photographer! :D
I've always thought the grainy effect on the pictures was annoying (except for 'old pictures') but it's like these photos were made to have that filter.
Particularly love the Katie one with the sunglasses... it's very ethereal.

  27. Thank you. I love that you share your onset/offset life with fans, giving an insight into the person you are and what makes you special. It's always the little things a person does that grows the love from others towards another. Keep doing what you're doing and be the person that you are as our fan love just grows and grows the more we see YOU.

  28. As if we don't adore you enough already!

Thanks so much for posting these. I doubt the joy that Merlin brought many of us will be replicated again in this lifetime.

Wishing you the best in your next projects!

  31. Thanks for sharing! I adore the ones of beautiful Colin Morgan!

  32. Thank you for the photos but it struck me that you may have stopped taking photos after series 3 because that was the last time they really explored your character and the other boys. They had a wonderful ensemble with all of you and then just never explored it. That was a great sadness.

  33. Thank you for sharing! You are really talented person!

  34. Oh what lovely photos! Sad you couldn't grab more but I'm definitely not complaining! Some is better than none!

  37. Gosh - they're beautiful!
And bring back so many good memoires of Pierrefonds, Puzzlewood, Caerphilly, fun trips with great people - and magic Merlin times!
    Thank you so much!

  38. You're a great photographer! You took such amazing photos of the GORGEOUS COLIN MORGAN!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Beautiful photos, Eoin. You seem to have quite the eye for it. The pictures of the woods....ooooh they're STUNNING.

Sadly the Pierrefonds near where I live is nowhere as beautiful as Pierrefonds, France. It is also full of white trash and condominiums. Not quite the same thing.

  40. Gorgeous photos! The ones of Colin Morgan are breathtaking...

  41. Merlin Official and the showrunners could certainly have taken some lessons from you in how to do PR. These are far more interesting than the standard posed official photos they squeezed out every year. Maybe you could persuade some of the other cast and crew members to post their photos too? xx
PS: If you have any more of Bradley and the knights (incl you!) to share that'd be great.

  42. You're a skilled photographer! ... Have you more of Colin Morgan, please?

  43. This is an amazing gift to Merlin fans like me! I really enjoyed these photos.
    Thank you, from Italy :)

  47. Beautiful scenery and photography. The pictures of the cast and set are very down to earth and incredibly artistic. I love this show, and its beautiful cast. It makes me feel better. I watched "Gwaine" twice this weekend when I got really sad (bad grades and a friend's death; the latter obliterating the former) and it did make me feel better. It is amazing what art and film-work can do! Thank you so much for sharing!

  58. "You dug out 7 or 8 more, when the knights turn against each other and guests stars Charlene McKenna..." Oh you are right, a picture of Charlene McKenna is what was missing in your first set of pictures, since Charlene McKenna was a member of the main cast and spent five years on that show. She was there right from the beginning and long before you joined in. You knew her and worked with her for three years so it was a shame that you didn't include a picture of her in the first set of pics. Thanks for bringing to our attention the fact that you found these beautiful new pics to remedy that "accidental" oversight .......but wait Charlene McKenna was only in one episode, so who was missing in the first set?.....And here I sincerely believed that the previous omission was accidental, clearly your comment proved me wrong. Anyway, thanks for the new picture of Angel, a really beautiful shot. It almost looks like the person who took that pic likes Angel......BTW your wish was granted, seeing a new picture of Angel makes a lot more than "FEW" people happy

  59. Eoin! Like everyone says.... I love you more now! Lol
But one thing revealed.... you love us merlin fans, don't you?

  60. Loving all these extra photos! The juxtaposition of chainmail wearing Knight Tom and his modern cell phone is great. <3

  61. Thanks for sharing these. I love how you play with the light on several, very cool, but you already knew that :-). Have a question for you, if you don't mind. Which do you find more fulfilling, your photography or your writing? Thank you again for sharing glimpses of your life with us, you are kind to do so.

  62. Oh my lords, Eion! These are such beautiful shots, honestly! They have so much beauty, and character and tranquility. Beautifully done. :)

  63. Lovely shots, thank you for sharing them. You've got quite an eye(s) - I put the s on the end of eyes in case you thought I was referring to you being cockeyed or maybe a pirate with an eye patch ....

  64. Love your blogging, you really have a special talent as a writer as well as an actor. I know you from Merlin only, which is enough to make an opinion, I'd say.
